Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim confesses he cannot ignore from his disappointing record and believes it is expected that Old Trafford former stars are criticizing him.

On Tuesday, the club's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney mentioned during his program that "the soul has vanished" from his former team.

Amorim has secured just eighteen wins from his 49 games in charge, including nine out of 33 in the English top flight, where he has still to achieve two successive wins.

Although senior club sources are insistent that Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to be behind the manager, failure to beat recently promoted Sunderland on Saturday will trigger renewed rumors about his position heading into the upcoming fortnight international break.

"It is understandable," commented the Portugal-born manager, when questioned about the former striker's observations. "You can't hide from the results."

"Then you have the baggage from last season, [although] that period for me doesn't matter."

Fan Response and Current Situation

Manchester United's fans remained behind Amorim following last season's dismal performance, when they ended up fifteenth in the table - their worst finish since the 1973/74 relegation season - and were beaten in the European final, in the expectation that this season would be substantially better.

Amorim told supporters the circumstances would change because he had greater opportunity to train with his players without the midweek distraction of continental competition.

Unfortunately is not how the first six games have materialised as Manchester United have experienced three defeats so far and find themselves 14th in the table.

Manager's Response to Concerns

When asked what assurances he could offer followers that the circumstances will change, Amorim stated: "It's not the moment to say, it is the time to prove."

"I review the matches in the current campaign and, for me, they are entirely different, but I have little to say at present."

  • Man Utd presently occupy the fourteenth position in the Premier League
  • Amorim has won just 18 of his 49 games in charge
  • The former striker recently questioned the team's current direction
  • The upcoming fixture against their opponents is important for Amorim's future
