Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel ran across the track right in his path

The concerning event took place on the third lap when track officials were observed on the circuit as Lawson was returning to the race following an quick visit to the pits to replace his damaged front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and there were just two guys sprinting across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be allowed to just sprint across the track in such a way. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is actively examining the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, the race directors was notified that debris was present on the track at the critical section of that bend" stated the governing body

"During the third lap, marshals were alerted and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once every vehicle had gone by"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch officials were withdrawn and a caution signal was raised in that section"

"We are still investigating what occurred after that point"
