Ex- NFL Player Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Trial
Ex- National Football League star Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge stemming from a incident that took place in May, as his lawyer submitting a not guilty declaration on his behalf.
Detention documents in Essex County, New Jersey, indicate that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his relocation to Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the NFL, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was taken after being taken into custody in Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an communication that he has earlier filed a formal innocent plea to the attempted murder charge. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as soon as Wednesday morning for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh said.
Based on his apprehension document, Brown is accused of seizing a pistol from a security staffer after a celebrity match contest in May and shooting two bullets at a person he had fought with previously. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed investigators that one shot touched his nape.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was compelled to take were exclusively in self-protection against the alleged victim’s aggressive conduct. Brown was attacked that evening and acted within his lawful right to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.
Brown was not immediately arrested because at first police did not consider Nantambu as a victim. It wasn’t until afterward in May that Nantambu delivered a full account about the situation to police and named Brown as the gunman, the report states.
According to his online content, Brown had been residing in Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the confrontation, Brown said he was defending himself because he was “assaulted by several persons who sought to take my jewelry and inflict bodily damage to me.”
A level two murder attempt accusation in Florida carries a highest 15-year prison penalty and up to a $10,000 fine in the event of a finding.
Brown has faced several judicial issues over the years. He previously had been accused of battery of a delivery employee, various family violence accusations, failure to pay child support and additional incidents.
Throughout a recent match with his team against the Jets, Brown took off his shirt, shoulder pads and accessories and ran off the arena, causing his dismissal by the Buccaneers and virtually halting his football tenure.
Brown, who spent 12 years in the NFL, was an All-Pro receiver who passed most of his career with his team. Throughout his time, Brown had 928 grabs for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one distance, the 28th most of record. He was a multiple-time all-star pick.
