One ranking policeman that leaped to the assistance of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist following a vehicle incident in the area in summer 2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a stun gun.

"Policeman stabbed," the officer was heard to say over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashcam recording shared by the force depicted Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon outstretched.

He ran into the policeman who stumbled and went down to the street, before Sergeant Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the pavement although being continually attacked with the blade.

Police Constable Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and awaited a open target, ending the fight to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get help on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."

Sergeant Ansell sustained two open wounds to his throat and additional wounds to his limbs and torso, while Sgt Foster experienced cut injuries.

Officials stated Sergeant Foster employed his hands to control his partner's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel came.

The latest honor comes after the trio of policemen won internal Valor Recognitions in fall 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional union branch in early 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.

"The responses of all three officers in the end rescued one another and meant no members of the public experienced any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, as stated by authorities.
